PZC Pleased with Passage of Resolution Supporting California-Israel Water Cooperation, Non-Endorsement of HR 2590, and Robust Platform Testimony at Fall CADEM Executive Board

(Sacramento, November 21, 2021) PZC commends the California Democratic Party (CDP) Legislation Committee for voting not to consider endorsement of HR 2590 at its Fall Executive Board Meeting this weekend. This is the third iteration of Congresswoman McCollum’s bill in 6 years. Each time it has failed to garner more than 30 House co-sponsors. This bill stigmatizes and delegitimizes Israel—and only Israel—while offering no solutions to the complex challenges its supporters purport to address. We are also proud of our efforts to build a communal consensus for the 2022 CDP platform position on Israel and Palestine.

Additionally, we are thrilled with the passage of PZC’s resolution encouraging further water cooperation between Israel, California, the European Union, and other countries. As climate change and severe drought threatens California, it is more critical than ever to pursue the best water management practices to ensure our planet remains habitable for all.

“Rather than deeply flawed and divisive legislation, California Democrats can focus on peace and trust building initiatives that can make a long-term difference in the lives of Israelis and Palestinians,” said Executive Director, Susan George. “Last August we passed a resolution affirming the vision of the International Fund for Israeli-Palestinian Peace. Numerous civil society organizations in Israel and Palestine have endorsed the fund, and Congress has already committed $250 Million towards this work, thanks to Democratic Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey’s Middle East Partnership for Peace Act. This is the future of the end of the conflict,” she continued.

PZC is grateful for the dedication and support of our many partners and friends, who have spent considerable time writing and delivering oral and written testimony to the Platform Committee. While there is much left to the process, we are pleased that so many have come together to affirm the CDPs current platform language, affirming the need for a viable peace between a secure Jewish and democratic Israel and a sovereign Palestinian state.

We also wish to thank:
Israel on Campus Coalition, Jewish Democratic Club of Silicon Valley, California Legislative Jewish Caucus, Democrats for Israel-California, Democrats for Israel-Los Angeles, Democrats for Israel-Orange County, Democratic Majority for Israel, American Jewish Committee, Jews Indigenous to the Middle East and North Africa, Democrats for Peace in the Middle East, Zioness Movement, A Wider Bridge, ADL Western Division, California Young Democrats Jewish Caucus, and others for their cooperation, support, and guidance. We look forward to working together in the future to keep the California Democratic Party free from antisemitism, and to focus our attention on making our communities better for everyone.
